What to see in Tellaro

The village of Tellaro

The village of Tellaro is one of the treasures that the Ligurian Riviera is littered with, a place in the municipality of Lerici that is less well known than others but offers interesting things to see as well as an evocative, out-of-time atmosphere.

The village of Tellaro faces directly onto the sea, with characteristic dwellings perched on a rocky outcrop that seems to plunge into the crystal-clear water: here narrow streets and paved alleys suddenly open onto breathtaking views, between the colors of the houses and the blue of the sky, a stage where placid little boats take the place of cars and nature expresses itself undisturbed.

Described by the writer Soldati as “a nirvana between sea and sky,” Tellaro presents fascinating interweavings of history and legend, tales of a mythical octopus, the village’s totem animal, who allegedly saved the inhabitants from the arrival of Saracen pirates by ringing the bells with his tentacles.
The bells of the church of St. George are thus every year the focus of a typical festival that attracts visitors from all over.

Hiking lovers will find a small paradise in Tellaro: itineraries rich in beauty that wind along the coast or in the surrounding woods, such as the Montemarcello trail, suspended between the Gulf of Poets and the Apuan Alps.
Tellaro also features first-class culinary offerings, making the most of maritime products and those of the Ligurian hinterland: fresh fish, olive oil of the finest quality, sweet focaccia and Vermentino wine, produced locally.

To visit the village of Tellaro is to live an authentic experience, an escape from the chaos of the city in which to rediscover a quiet and relaxed, slow lifestyle where the grace of the landscape and the richness of the local culture evoke engaging suggestions.
