What to see in this lovely resort in Liguria.

Lavagna

Located just a short distance from Sestri Levante, Lavagna is a lively seaside town full of life.

An authentic treasure in the heart of the Riviera di Levante, Lavagna is famous for its golden beaches, historical heritage and maritime traditions that leave a strong and evocative echo here.
Lavagna boasts a long history, whose roots go back to Roman times: it owes its name to the slate stone, typical of the area, of which it became an important processing hub.
With this metamorphic rock, roofs and, indeed, slates are built.

Lavagna has a beautiful historic center, many tongues of fine sand and a wonderful, scenic hinterland, dotted with the many hillside hamlets.
Sights include the Basilica of Santo Stefano, with its monumental Piazza and Porticato: a raised, majestic church that stands out candidly against the blue sky.
The Porticato is a unique structure in Liguria that is harmoniously integrated among the characteristic city facades.

Lavagna’s historic center is a perfect example of a Ligurian village with its narrow streets called carruggi, pastel-colored houses and hidden little squares.
On the way to the sea you will encounter the characteristic Piazza della Libertà, a lively meeting place where you can enjoy aperitifs, ice cream, and delicious coffee.
The Lungomare is appreciated for the many beaches gently sloping into the water, alternating free stretches with well-equipped bathing establishments perfect for families and groups of friends: the crystal-clear Ligurian sea frames a dreamy setting.

Local cuisine is another attraction: here you will find traditional dishes in their best form, with fresh fish starring on all menus, such as anchovy and blue fish. Vermentino and Pigato are the typical wines of the surroundings.
During your visit to Lavagna you cannot miss the Torta dei Fieschi, a medieval feast reenacting an ancient noble wedding, where you will find games, dancing and a huge cake to share.
Autumn sees the opening of the San Simone Fair, featuring fine crafts and culinary specialties.
